Gray Frere, Gray Freir, n. Also: gray freyr; gray(e frear, frier, fryer; gra freir. [ME. gray frere (c 1400), grey frere (a 1310); cf. Gray a. 1 b.] A Franciscan friar. Frequent in pl., also ellipt. for the name of the priory. 1477 Edinb. Chart. 141.
