Paig, attrib. and comb. [Appar. var. of Peug n., ? with differently derived vowel.] a. (Consisting of) ‘puke’, the high quality woollen cloth. b. Paig-cullour, the colour ‘puke’, described in e.m.E. as ‘betwene russet & black’ (1538), ‘a deepe darke purple’ (1598), prob. orig. the usual colour of this cloth. — 1595 Edinb. Test. XXVIII. 9.
