Thoft, Thocht, n. [ME and e.m.E. thoft (1294-6), thofft (1336), thot (1378-81), thowt (1405-10), thougt (1622), thought (1627), OE þofte, ON þopta. Also thaft in the mod. east-coast dial. Cf. Thort n. A board laid across a boat to form a seat. — 1513 Doug. v iii 63.
