(Quikkining,) Quickin-, Quickening, n. [e.m.E. quickning (1598), and in later Sc. and north. Eng. dial. as quick(e)nin, (north. Eng.) whicknin, f. Quik(k)in v. 4. Cf. also Quikking.] That which produces fermentation, yeast or some other fermenting agent. Also attrib. in quickening-bott. — 1622 Falkirk Par. Rec. I 32.
