CHAIRLIE-MUFF, n. comb. “The willow-wren” (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B.), Phylloscopus trochilus. Swainson in Brit. Birds (1885) 26 gives willie-muftie (Sc.) and muffie wren (Rnf.) as other names for this bird and ascribes them to the materials used for the nest. Cf. Charlie Muftie, the whitethroat.
