[ME and e.m.E. stirhap lethir (1394-5), styrop lethre (14th c.), stirrop lethyr (1470); Sterap(e n.] A stirrup leather, the strap by which a stirrup iron hangs from the saddle.(a) c1420 Wynt. ix 1575.
