(Quine,) Quyn, Queine, Quhyin, -en, n.2 Sc. var. of Twyn(e n. In 1710, according to Ruddiman (Gloss. to Doug., s.v. Q), ‘to the West and South whole Counties turn W, when a T preceeds, into Qu, as, que, qual, quanty, bequeen’, but in the mod. dial. this change is chiefly found in Perthsh., Fife and Lothian. Cf. Quheling, Quholmoth and also twilt quilt. — 1641-8 Skipper's Acc. (Smettone) 3b.
