Akin, Aikin, a. Also: akyn(e, ackyn, akk(e)in; aiken, aikine, aikne, aickin, -yn, aikkin, aykkin, aikkan; eakin, eiken. [f. Ake, Aik n. Cf. the early place-name Akinhede (1260), Akynhevid (1379). Southern ME. oken ‘oaken’ is found from c 1300.] Made or consisting of oak-wood; of oak; oaken. Akin tree, the oak-tree.(a) 1502 Edinb. B. Rec. 117.
