RECOMMEND, v. To direct a potential master to a potential servant with commendation, the reverse of the Eng. construction (see quot.) (Abd., Ags. 1967). Rare.Sc. a.1838 Jam. MSS. X. 257:
“I wadna recommend you to him as a servant”. i.e. I would not recommend him as a servant to you.
