PULLOCH, n. Also pullach; paloch-; pollach. A small edible crab (Bnff., Kcd. 1967, palloch); also in dim. form pollachie, id. (Rxb. 1825 Jam.). Cf. Piller, Poo, Pallawa.Fif. 1718 Burgess Ticket Buckhaven 1:
To take Partens, Kavies, Crabs, Palochies, and other Shellfish.
Ags. 1808 Jam. s.v. Poo:
In Arbroath a young crab is called a pulloch.
Ags. 1952 Scots Mag. (Feb.) 358:
Among the crabs are “partans,” “pollachs” and “safters”.
