Trip(e, Tryp(e, n.2 Also: tryip, trypp-, traipe. [Late ME and e.m.E. trype (c1430), tripe (1598), OF tripe (1317 in Wartburg) a sort of velour or plush in which the nap was of wool, the weft of hemp, and which was often used for covering furniture.
