Beild, Beld, v.1 Also: beilde. P.t. and p.p. beildit, -yt, -ed, beldit; beild, belt. [ME. belde, rare var. of bilde(n, bylden, southern bulden, OE. byldan (rare). For the unusual development of the vowel cf. keild, keill ‘kill’ and werde ‘weird’. The late appearance of the word suggests adoption from Eng. (in place of Big v.), as in the later form Build, and some of the early instances might be taken as Belde v.] tr. and intr. To build.(a) c1475 Acts of Schir William Wallace viii. 1015.
