Amen, (Amain,) interj., n. [Early ME. amen, OF. amen, L. āmēn.] —a1400 Leg. S. ii. 1176 (say we amen). c1460 Thewis Gud Wemen 316 (amen, amen, fore cherytté). 1492 Myll Spect. 298/7. c1500-c1512 Dunb. xxv. 38 (say ȝe amen, for cheritie). 1581 Burne Disput. 53 b (the turning of Amen into your neu Sobeit). 1618 Edinb. Test. L. 58 (in the name of god, amain).
