Bandelier, Bandolier, n. Also: bandileir(e, -(i)lier, -eler, -eleir, -elyar, -elyr, -al(l)ier. [e.m.E. bandollier (a 1577), bandilier, -leer, -lear, etc … later bandoleer, -lier.] A shoulderbelt for supporting a musket, with attachments for holding the charges or cartridges.1612 Wedderb. Compt Bk. 190 (lent James Alisone my bandeler). 1618 Aberd. B. Rec. II. 358 (ane hagbute and bandileire). 1639 St. A. Baxter Bks. 105 (thrie muskettis, thrie bandeliers). 1648 Peebles B.
