[ME. bere (beere, beare, bare), beren, OE. beran (ONhb. beara). The p.t. corresponds to ME. bare, bar (OE. bær) and bore (rare before 1600), and the p.p. to ME. born, boren (OE. boren), southern bore, whence the forms without -n in Sc.]In addition to the senses illustrated below, the verb also occurs in a number of special phrases, for which see the nouns, as company, hand, witnes, etc.
