Diligence, -ens, Deligence, -ens, n. Also: dilygens, diliegence, dilligence, -ens; delygens, deliegence. [ME. diligence (1340), dily-, dely-, etc., OF. diligence, L. dīligentia.]
1. Persistent application or endeavour; assiduity, industry: a. In phrases with do, give, mak, put, tak, or use.(a) c1420 Wynt. v. 4310.
