[ME. gyf, gyfe, gyffe, gif, gife, giffe, early gifen (c 1200), OSw. giva (Sw. gifva), ODa. givæ (Dan. give), varying in vowel from ON. gefa, Gefe, Geve. The double f is most frequent in disyllabic forms as giffis, gyffis, giffin, gyffyn, etc.] To give, in various senses.
