Govis, Gowis, n. pl. Also: gowes. [Pl. of Gove n. Cf. Goif, Gouchf.] A device of the nature of, or the same as, a pillory for securing persons as a public punishment for various offences.(a) 1520 Edinb. B. Rec. I. 201.
