Kirk-stile, -style, n. Also: kyrk- and -styll, -styill. [e.m.E. churche-style (1548–9).] A stile, also, a gateway for foot-passengers, giving entrance to a churchyard. Also attrib. with gait (= road). See also Kirkȝard-stile.(a) 1435 Exch. R. IV. 623.
