Knoking-stane, -staine, -stone, n. Also: knockingstone. [Knoking vbl. n. (3) and (4): as in the later dial.] a. A stone with a hollow or depression in which barley was placed for ‘knocking’ (Knok v. 3 b). b. A flat stone on which linen cloth or washing was ‘knocked’ (Knok v. 3 a). 1586 St. A. Test. II. 68.
