Lath-brod, -bord, n.¹ Also: latht-, laith(t)-, lauth(t)and -brode, -bred. [Cf. north. e.m.E. latbrod (1536–7), late broade (1620), lath-nail, and mod. north. Eng. dial. lat-brod in the same sense; appar. f. Lath n. and Brod n.¹ a prick, in later Sc. and north. Eng. dial. as brod a short, round-headed nail made by blacksmiths; later confused with bord Burd(e board (and Bred n.¹ 2), as in Lath-brodn.²]
