Also: medicyn-, medycin-, medycyn-, medicen-, medycen-, medisen-, medison-, medecyn-, medesyn- and -ar(e, -er(e, -eir; medcinare, -cinair, -cynar, -cynnair, -soneir, metsouner. [e.m.E. (once) medycyner (1533), otherwise chiefly or only Sc.: cf. OF. medecineur. Cf. also Medicianar.]
1. A physician: a practitioner of medicine; also applied to a lay person skilled in medicine.Also attrib.In common use throughout the period.In certain instances appar. specifically a physician as distinct from a surgeon; see Leche n.1 and the following: 1456 Hay I. 115/14.
