Pittance-, Pittan(e-silver, n. Also: pitten- and -sylver, -silvir. [Only Sc.; f. Pittancen. and silver.] The revenue from a bequest or endowment originally given to a religious house as a pious donation to make additional provision of food, wine, etc. for the religious on special occasions. b.
