Pundar, Ponder, n.2 [ON pundari a steelyard, f. pund Pund n.1 I: cf. the appar. sim. formed late ME punder, pounder, pondre, recorded only c1425–c1440, the English ‘auncel’, appar. because it had a knob of a pound weight as a counterpoise.] In Orkney: A pundlar. = Pundlar n.2. — 1564–5 Rec.
