Reward, -waird, v. Also: -warde, -vard; -wird; -vaird; and ryward. P.p. also revard. [ME and e.m.E. rewarde(n to heed (c1315), to repay (c1350), etc.,ONF rewarder, OF reguarder, regarder (1080 and c1170 in Larousse); Regard v. Cf. also e.m.E. reward(e p.p. (1567, 1574).]
1. tr. To repay or recompense (a person) (for some service, merit, etc.) (with a gift, favour, etc.).Also without const.(1) 1375 Barb. iv 480.
