Rin(n)and met, Rynnand met, Rining mett, Rynnyn(g met, n. Also: -ant, -en and mett. [Rin(n)and ppl. adj. and Met n.] a. One of a set of standard measuring vessels, varying in capacity from one locality to another, intended to receive dry goods poured into it, ? and having a mouth large enough to do this without undue spillage.(a) 1561 Thirds of Benefices 69.

b. A standard of measurement for dry goods, esp. grain.See also hepit met and strakit met. According to Hamilton (Cat. 105) a ‘gud mesure’ might be ‘pressit doune’ and ‘schakin to gidder’. Perh. when rinnand met is specified, it signifies that the grain was allowed to remain loosely packed in the vessel. Hence in calculations some adjustment was made to equalise rinnand met and the usual (? hepit) measure of dry goods. 1541 Exch. R. XVII 712.
