Robene Hude. Also: -ein, -in, -yn(e; Robert and Huid, Huyd, Hwde, Houd, Hoid, Hoode. [ME and e.m.E. Robyn Hood the name of the English outlaw (Piers Plowman).] Robin Hood, presented as a leader of May day folk revelry in Scotland from the beginning of the 16th c. until shortly after the Reformation.
