Up(a)landis, Uponlandis, adj. Also: uplandys, -es, upalands, upaallandis, wplandis, uplandish. [ME and e.m.E. vplondis (c1330), uplondische (Wyclif), vplandishe (More), OE uplendisc. Cf. Up(a)landadj., adv. and adv. phr.] a. That lives, is situated in, associated with or derived from the countryside as opposed to the town. b.
