Skyre, Shirre, Scirh, n. [Of uncertain origin and meaning; poss. f. L. scirros a hard swelling or tumour, f. the Gk. Cf. e.m.E. scirrhus (1605), and F. squirre (16th c. schirre, scirre in Larousse); or f. as Scar n.1] An unsightly physical mark; ? a lump or tumour; ? a scar or scab. — c1500-c1512 Dunb. Flyt. 122.
