CLAIK, Clake, Klaik, n.3 The barnacle, Lepas anatifera (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.; 1914 Angus Gl., klaik). J. M. Hutcheson in W.-L. (1913–1914) gives the form clake for Sh. and Marw. (1929) gives klekk for Ork. [klek Sh.; klɛk Ork.]
[Of the same origin as Claik Goose, which was pop. supposed to have developed from it. Marw. believes klekk to be a parallel form to klegg, horse-fly (see Cleg, n.1), from a root *kli = to stick.]You may wish to vary the format shown below depending on the citation style used.
