GRIM, adj.2 Sc. usage: grey, roan-coloured, mottled with black and white, having a dirty or grimy appearance (Abd. 1870; Bwk. 1942 Wettstein; Abd., Per., Fif., Ayr. 1955). Comb. grim-skinned, sallow-complexioned (Cai. 1955).Slk. 1818 Hogg Shepherd's Cal. (1874) xx.:
He [sheep-dog] was all over black, and had a grim face striped with dark brown.
