MUIRMENT, n. Also meurment. Stones and rubbish which block up the workings of a pit.Lth. 1768 Session Papers, Petition J. Clark (21 July) 10:
Till such time as the rubbish or muirment which chocks up all these workings be removed.
m.Lth. 1770 Session Papers, State of Process, Henry v. Clerk 26:
A good deal of meurement and rubbish, upwards of two foot thick, had been redd out, and carried to the pit-head.

[A nonce word found in O.Sc. as murmunthe, mearmint, moor-, 1672, in connection with the same colliery. Phs. Eng. mure, to block up, build up, + -ment suffix.]
