SUILK, v. Also solk (Jak.). To swallow with a slobbering noise, to gulp, suck in (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928)). [sɔilk]Sh. 1899 Shetland News (22 July):
“Noo, is doo suilkid hit up?” Sibbie said, as shü rubbid her haand i' da calf's back.

[Poss. a metathetic form of Norw. dial. sukla, to splash, slobber. See Suilkie.]
