ADVERTEESE, ADVERTEEZE, v. A Sc. pronunciation of advertise. Also advertish (Sc. 1701 R. Wodrow Analecta (M.C.) I. 1, Lnk. 1711 Minutes J.P.s (S.H.S.) 112). See S, letter, 6. (3). This spelling and the scansion in Ramsay Poems (S.T.S.) II. 40, "Advertis'd a' their Parts sae rare," indicates that the word was stressed as in contemporary Eng. on the second syllable. Cf.
