Gardeviant, -vyance, -vyat, n. Also: gardyvian(i)s, -vyans, guardivianis; cardyviance; gardeveyat, -wiat, gardyviat, -wyot; cardiviot. ? Also: gardeviar, gardivyr. [ME. gardevyaunt (1459), -vyan (c 1460), -viande (c 1490), e.m.E. -viaunce (1552), app. F. *gardeviande(s, a foodchest or meat-safe.
