Lowdin, a. [In the later dial. as lowden (1710, Ruddiman) subdued, mute (person), metathetic var. of lownd adj. (= Lown a. with excrescent -d or as if p.p. of Lown(e v.: cf. Lownding vbl. n.). Perh. apprehended as a p.p.] Of the wind: Calm(ed), still(ed). —1597 Misc. Spald. C. I. 151.
