Produced for young Scots learners everywhere, our fully updated Scots Dictionary for Schools app gives definitions in English for 9,500 Scots words, plus 600 audio pronunciation guides for tricky spellings. In 2022, revisions included an improved user-friendly design and search function, plus a new random-word generator to help you discover new words you might find interesting or useful.

Through its extensive coverage of the poetry of Burns and the Scots found in other set classroom texts, the Scots Dictionary for Schools app helps Scotland’s young learners engage confidently and positively with the Scots they encounter in school, at home, and in everyday life.
Originally published in 2014, the Scots Dictionary for Schools app is based on the text of our Essential Scots Dictionary. The current (second) edition was launched on 25 January 2021, updated in August 2022, and features improved content, a brand new app design, improved search functionality, a new random-word generator, and 600 new, professionally recorded pronunciation guides.
