Hoghed, Hogheid, n. Also: hoghud, hogged, hoggeid; hogheit, hog(g)eit, hogget, hoggert; hogit(h, hoggitt; hoggat; hugget(t; hodgheit, hodg(e)head, hodget; hoigat. [Late ME. and e.m.E. hogshede, -heed, -head, ME. hoggeshede (1392), hoogeshed (1390), of obscure origin. The omission of the s is peculiar to the Sc. forms. Cf.
