Altere, Alter, n. Also: alteir; altir, allter, halter; aulter, awlter. [ME. altere, alter (e.m.E. also aulter), OF. alter (var. of auter, see Auter(e, L. altāre Altare. The form might also represent OE. and ON. altere.]
