Appropriat, v. (apro-). [L. appropriāt- (see Appropriat(e,p.p.), as also ME. appropriate (c 1425).] tr. To appropriate, take to oneself.1494 Edinb. B. Rec. 68 (that the baillies appropriat the sam to thair awin vse). 1560 Rolland Seven Sages 111/27 (thay seuin to thame selfis appropriatis ȝour rentis). 1562-3 Winȝet I. 50/5 (sik a king as appropriat to him self empyre and power). 1590 Rec. Convention of Royal Burghs I. 339 (thair apropriating of the liberty of frie burrowes).
