1. Beholden, obliged, bound (to do something).1456 Hay I. 104/2 (thai ar nocht behaldin till obey him); 140/10 (the kyndenes in the quhilk he was behaldin); etc. 1478 Acta Aud. 74/1 (he suld nocht be behaldin to gif the said sowme).
