Essonȝeour, Essonȝier, n. [AF. essoigniour; e.m.E. essoyner (1651).] One who offers an excuse. —14.. Acts I. 108/2.
Sua that suilk essonȝie be resavit in court … in presens of the essonȝeouris 1609 Skene Reg. Maj. iii b.
It behoues the essonzier to name his awin name, and the name of him that is essonzied Ib.
Gif he does otherwise, … the essonzier [will be] amerciate for his vnlawfull essonzie
