Impede, Impeid, v. Also: imped, -pead. [e.m.E. impede (17th c.), impeid, ad. L. impedīre.] tr. To impede. (1) To hinder, prevent. (2) concr. To obstruct, block (a passage, etc.).(1) (a) 1582 Declar. Causis 19.
