Knapper(t, Knopper, n. (Here appar. applied to the acorn. But (if this is the same word) later Sc. dial. have knappert, -art the heath pea, Norw. knappurt id., and cf. ODa. and Da. knapurt, MLG. knōpwort, G. knopfwurz(el as names of various herbs). —a1646 Wedderburn Voc. (1673).
