Lapidar, n.2 Also: -are, -air, -er. [OF. lapidaire: cf. ME. lapidarie (Wyclif), L. lapidārius.] A jeweller: an artificer in precious stones; latterly, a connoisseur or ‘expert’ of precious stones, more generally. Also attrib. in lapidare cais, a jeweller's box or jewel-case.c1500-c1512 Dunb. lxiii. 15.
