Opime, Opym, a. [L. opīm-us rich, sumptuous, noble, etc.; also 17th c. Eng. (1664–1694) rich, sumptuous, splendid, and mod. F.] Only in opime spuleȝe, rendering L. spolia opima, ‘the arms taken on the field of battle by the victorious from the vanquished general, the spoils of honour’, also, spec., the arms so taken in single combat. — 1533 Bell. Livy II. 80/9.
That A. Cornelius Cossus offerit the secunde opime [B. opym] spuleȝe [L. spolia opima; supra, riche spuleȝe] of kingis slane be Romanis Ib. /11.
