[ME. plȝzt (c 1350), plyght (Caxton), condition, state, also manner (c 1460), mood (1513), fold (c 1460), var. of Plite n.1, conformed to Plicht n.1 with which in some Eng. dials. already in the 14th c. it was identified in pronunciation and spelling.] Condition, state. Plite n.1 1 and 2.In the quot. for 1443 (taken from an 18th c. transcript), plyght may represent plyt read as plyt, and so properly belong to Plite n.1 1.1443 Antiq. Aberd. & B. III. 268.
