Prepositor, n. [L. type agent noun f. præposit-us, p.p. of præpōnere to charge with management. Cf. med. L. propositor a reeve.] One who deputes the management of a commercial or mercantile undertaking to a factor or institor (Institor n.). — 1681 Stair Inst. i xii §19 (1832) 120.
By the contracts of institors in relation to that wherein they were intrusted, their prepositors are obliged; and as exercitors are as to maritime matters, so prepositors are correspondent in traffic at land
