Quoth, p.t. Also: qwoth, quhot, qot, qt. [e.m.E. quoth (1581), ME quoþ (14th c.), also coþe, coth, cuth, earlier cwað, quaþ (13th c.), OE cwæð p.t. of cweðan to say, speak. Cf. Quod, Quo, also Quethe n.The only instances we have noted before the 17th c. are that at Clar. iv 1642, and contracted forms occurring in two small sections of the Bann.
