Rowet, -at, n. [OF roet, MF rouwet, rouet (12th c., 1371 and 1382 in Larousse) a small wheel, also (c1536) in this sense, dimin. of roue Row n.1] A wheel-lock, a mechanism for firing a gun developed in continental Europe in the 16th century. Also comb. in rowet work and attrib. with carabin.1577 Edinb. Test. V 352.
